It's #DietitiansWeek and we are proud to call ourselves a dietitian-approved resource for IBS specialist Dietitians, their patients and the community at large.
I never qualified as a Dietitian and was bullied for it in the workplace by other Dietitians, being labelled; "just a Nutritionist". I trained as a Dietitian via a DA accredited course at a leading Melbourne university, however my thinking & approach towards nutrition & dietetics was unique and challenged many pre-established systems with concrete status-quo in the dietetics field. Change needed to happen. I felt devalued, so I took control and paved the necessary steps to redefine my value as a nutrition professional. I'm proud to have established an independent nutrition business FodShop which leverages the roles of gastroenterology Dietitians in the clinic & community in promoting and supporting gut & mental health via a commercial pathway; in Dietitians' own private practises and in hospital settings. It is humbling to support Dietitians excel in patient care, and I hope to see more and more independent clinics pop up as Dietitians build confidence in their own capacity for financial independence, and are shown how to leverage these skills within the university system & dietetic communities. This week I congratulate and acknowledge the profession I trained in, yet mostly walked away from traditionally, only to help it progress outside of the 'here and now'. Every day, Dietitians advocade for preventative medicine and their voices will only get stronger as the government supports and invests more resources into nutrition & dietetic advocacy. #DietitiansWeek #DietitiansWeek2024 #MindBodyBrain #SeeAnAPD
